1. What LegalGuides is and isn't
LegalGuides.net is a U.S. immigration legal-information and verified-attorney directory platform. We provide a public Q&A library, attorney listings, and the technical means for users and attorneys to enter into limited-scope private consultations. We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. No employment relationship, partnership, or referral arrangement exists between LegalGuides and any attorney on the platform.
2. User accounts
You must be 18+ and provide accurate information. You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your password secret. We may suspend accounts for fraud, abuse, scraping, or violations of these Terms.
3. The public Q&A library
Questions you post become part of a public library. Do not include full A-numbers, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive identifiers. Each question may receive an AI-generated legal-information summary. The summary is general information only and never constitutes legal advice.
4. Attorneys on the platform
Each listed attorney has had their bar number checked against state-bar records. Verification does not mean we endorse, recommend, or guarantee any attorney's competence or fitness. Listings are organised by relevance, rating, and subscription tier — premium tier placement boost is capped to prevent gaming.
5. Paid consultations
When you book a consultation, your card is authorised but not charged until the attorney accepts and both parties sign the engagement letter. The fee is fully refundable until the consultation begins. After the consultation begins, the fee is non-refundable unless the attorney withdraws or fails to deliver the service. The engagement letter — not these Terms — controls the attorney–client relationship.
6. Fees and payouts
LegalGuides charges a platform fee on each paid consultation. This fee is structured as a marketing fee for use of the platform — not a referral fee. We do not split legal fees with non-lawyers in violation of ABA Model Rule 5.4 or any state equivalent.
7. Attorney advertising compliance
Attorneys are responsible for ensuring their profile copy and answers comply with their state's attorney-advertising rules. LegalGuides auto-applies state-specific disclaimers based on the attorney's bar admissions; attorneys are responsible for verifying these are sufficient under current rules.
8. Acceptable use
- Don't post defamatory, harassing, or illegal content.
- Don't scrape or bulk-export attorney profiles or Q&A content.
- Don't impersonate any attorney or other user.
- Don't attempt to circumvent the platform fee by booking off-platform.
9. Intellectual property
LegalGuides retains rights in the platform, logo, and aggregate content layout. Attorneys retain rights in their answers; LegalGuides receives a non-exclusive license to display them publicly. Users retain rights in their question content; LegalGuides receives a non-exclusive license to display, summarise, and index it.
10. Disclaimers
The platform is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, LegalGuides disclaims all warranties about availability, accuracy of AI summaries, attorney availability, or outcomes of any matter.
11. Limitation of liability
LegalGuides' aggregate liability arising out of these Terms is limited to the fees you paid to LegalGuides in the 12 months before the claim, or $100, whichever is greater. This does not limit liability for fraud or willful misconduct.
12. Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement at any time by closing the account. Sections 6, 9, 10, and 11 survive termination.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware (U.S.), without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Mandatory state-bar rules of the attorney's licensed state govern the engagement letter.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms; material changes are emailed to account holders with at least 14 days' notice.
